What We Offer

End-to-End Heating Solutions

Devon Heat Pumps, a trading name of Chalmers and Sons Ltd, delivers a full range of renewable heating services — from heat pump installation to underfloor heating and whole-system retrofits. Whether you're building a new home, upgrading an older property, or looking to cut your energy bills, our MCS certified engineers will design and install the right solution for you.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps are the most popular and cost-effective way to heat your home with renewable energy. They extract heat from the outside air — even in temperatures as low as -15°C — and use it to heat your home and hot water. Modern units achieve efficiencies of 300–400%, meaning every unit of electricity you use generates three to four units of heat.

We install, service and repair a wide range of leading heat pump brands. Every installation is carried out to MCS standards, ensuring you qualify for the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which currently provides a £7,500 grant towards the cost of a new heat pump.

From a detailed home survey and heat loss calculation through to commissioning and handover, we manage the entire process — including grant paperwork — so you don't have to.

  • New heat pump installation
  • Annual servicing & maintenance
  • Fault diagnosis & repair
  • Hot water cylinder sizing & supply
  • Heat loss calculations & system design
  • BUS grant application support

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating is the ideal complement to a heat pump. Because heat pumps operate most efficiently at lower flow temperatures (typically 35–45°C), underfloor heating — which works best at exactly these temperatures — is a natural pairing. The result is a highly efficient system that delivers even, comfortable warmth from the floor up, with no cold spots and no radiators taking up wall space.

We install both wet (hydronic) underfloor heating systems in new builds and retrofits, as well as electric systems where wet installation isn't practical. Our team will assess your floor construction and room layout to recommend the most suitable approach.

Whether you're fitting out a new extension, renovating a ground floor, or looking to upgrade a whole property, we'll design a zoned system with smart controls so you only heat the rooms you're using.

  • Wet (hydronic) UFH installation
  • Electric UFH systems
  • New builds & retrofits
  • Zoned room controls
  • Smart thermostat integration
  • Heat pump integration & optimisation

Central Heating Retrofits

Switching from a gas boiler to a heat pump doesn't have to mean a complete overhaul of your home. Many existing central heating systems can be adapted to work with a heat pump — but getting it right requires careful assessment of your pipework, radiator sizing and overall heat demand.

Our engineers will carry out a full room-by-room heat loss calculation and assess your existing system. Where radiators need upsizing to work at lower flow temperatures, we'll advise on the most cost-effective upgrades. In many cases, existing pipework can be reused, keeping disruption and cost to a minimum.

We'll design a complete system around your heat pump — including buffer tanks, controls and hot water cylinders — ensuring everything works together efficiently from day one.

  • Full system assessment & heat loss survey
  • Radiator upsizing & replacement
  • Pipework upgrades where required
  • Buffer vessels & hot water cylinders
  • Controls & smart thermostat installation
  • System commissioning & handover

How It Works

Our Process

From first contact to ongoing aftercare, we make the journey to low-carbon heating straightforward and stress-free.

1

Survey

We visit your property to assess your existing system, insulation levels and heating requirements. We'll carry out a full room-by-room heat loss calculation and discuss your options honestly.

2

Design

We design a bespoke heating system sized correctly for your home — specifying the right heat pump model, emitters, controls and hot water solution. You'll receive a clear, fixed-price proposal with no hidden extras.

3

Install

Our qualified engineers install your system to MCS standards, keeping disruption to a minimum. We handle all commissioning, MCS certification and grant paperwork, and walk you through operating your new system before we leave.

4

Aftercare

We're here long after installation day. Annual servicing keeps your system running at peak efficiency, and our team is on hand for any questions, adjustments or repairs. Your comfort is our long-term commitment.
