Comfortable, efficient warmth from the ground up
Underfloor heating (UFH) distributes warmth across the entire floor surface, turning your floor into one large, low-temperature radiator. Rather than heating the air from a single point — as a traditional radiator does — UFH creates an even, consistent warmth that rises gently from the ground up.
At Devon Heat Pumps we specialise in wet (water-based) underfloor heating systems — the gold standard for whole-home comfort and by far the most efficient choice when paired with an air source heat pump. Whether you're building new or retrofitting an existing home, our experienced team will design and install a system tailored to your property.
No cold spots or hot blasts near radiators. Warmth spreads uniformly across every room for true whole-home comfort.
UFH operates at lower water temperatures than radiators, reducing energy consumption and running costs.
Completely invisible once installed — no radiators, no pipework on show. Full freedom to design and furnish your rooms.
Reduced air circulation means fewer airborne dust particles and allergens — better for allergy sufferers and families.
Runs efficiently at 35–45°C flow temperatures, the sweet spot for heat pumps and the key to low running costs.
Independent zone thermostats for each room or floor, so you only heat the spaces you use.
We focus on wet (hydronic) underfloor heating — water-based systems where warm water circulates through a network of pipes embedded in or clipped to the floor structure. This is the most efficient solution for whole-home heating and the natural partner for an air source heat pump.
Pipes are laid in a sand-cement or liquid screed layer — ideal for new builds and ground floors. Excellent thermal mass for steady, consistent heat. Compatible with all floor finishes including tile, stone, wood and LVT.
Purpose-built panels as thin as 15mm that sit on top of your existing floor — minimal floor height increase. Perfect for retrofits where raising floor levels is a concern. Faster heat-up times due to reduced mass.
Aluminium spreader plates clip pipes between or below joists, conducting heat upwards. An effective solution for older properties with timber suspended floors — no lifting required in many cases.
Air source heat pumps and underfloor heating are the ideal combination — and the reason is simple: flow temperature.
A traditional gas boiler runs at 70–80°C. To achieve similar output at those temperatures, a heat pump has to work hard, reducing its efficiency. But a heat pump is at its most efficient when producing water at 35–45°C — and that's exactly what underfloor heating needs.
The large surface area of the floor means lower temperatures do the same heating job as a smaller, hotter radiator. The result: your heat pump runs at peak efficiency, your Coefficient of Performance (CoP) stays high, and your running costs stay low.
We visit your property, assess floor types, insulation levels and room usage. A detailed heat loss calculation tells us exactly what output is needed in each zone — ensuring the system is properly sized from the start.
We produce a full pipe layout drawing for each room, specifying pipe spacing, manifold locations and zone controls. If you're also having a heat pump installed, we design the UFH and ASHP as a single integrated system.
Our qualified engineers install insulation boards, lay pipes to the design specification, fit manifolds and connect zone controls. We work cleanly and efficiently, keeping disruption to your home to a minimum.
The system is pressure tested, balanced and commissioned to manufacturer specifications. We walk you through the controls, thermostats and app (where applicable) and leave you with full documentation and warranty information.
The ideal time to install UFH is during construction. Pipes are embedded in the screed before the finish floor goes down, with no disruption to finished rooms. We work closely with builders and self-builders to co-ordinate installation at the right stage.
Adding UFH to an existing home is more involved but absolutely achievable. We assess your floors, advise on the best system type and manage the installation to minimise disruption. Low-profile overlay systems can often be fitted without major floor raise issues.
